Еще раз о hal+xorg+Рус

Я установил линукс на ноуте acer aspire 4720z поставил hal xorg-server kde.
У меня упорно не хочет переключаться раскладки после настройки hal однако помогла kde со своим переключателем xkd.
Меня интересует эта привязанность к kde :( на соседнем компе все работает без всяких настроек kde
